How to play PS4 on PC with Remote play

The set-up process isn’t as straightforward as it is when streaming Xbox One gameplay via the Xbox app in Windows 10, but it still does the job. The how-to is comprised of four sections;

  1. Installation and activation
  2. Register the PS4
  3. Connect to PS4
  4. Connecting over the Internet

It’s worth noting that the initial setup has to be performed with both the PC and PS4 on the same network – it can’t be set up remotely over the Internet.

Step 1 : Installation and activation

  1. Download and install the app. Download and install Remote PC Play from here. It’s worth noting that Windows 10 users may come across a “Windows protected your PC” alert when trying to open Remote PC Play for the first time – this is because the software is new, and Windows doesn’t yet recognise it as having a ‘reputation’. Just click ok to dismiss the banner, and the app should open.
  2. Activate the app. If you haven’t yet, activate your copy of the app by entering the license key provided in your invoice email. Once activated, the app should display a message confirming the activation was successful, and will then close.
  3. Re-open the app. Re-open the app and you should be able to continue with the setup process without being prompted for an activation code.

Step 2 : Registering your PS4 for Remote Play

  1. Head to the Remote Play Connect menu. On your PlayStation 4, head to Settings > Remote Play Connection Settings > Add Device and make note of the number displayed on screen.
  2. Enter info on the app. In the Remote PC Play app, enter the number in the PIN field and enter the online ID of the account of which you’re currently signed into on your PS4. This is case sensitive, so it’s probably worth heading to the PSN Account Settings website and copying & pasting the ‘Online ID’ to make sure it’s done properly.
  3. Complete registration. Click ‘Register’ and after a few seconds, a message should be displayed informing you that the PS4 has been registered. Once this appears, simply click OK to continue.
Step 3 : Connecting to your PS4
  1. Decide on method of connection. There are two ways to connect to your PS4 when using Remote PC Play; Direct Connect, or Search and Connect. If you’re not too confident with networks and port forwarding, select the “Search and Connect” option. If you know the Public IP address of your PS4 (which can be found by going to com on your PS4), simply enter it in the top field and click ‘Direct Connect’ – note that the PS4 has to be fully powered on to use Remote Play via a direct connection, but is the required connection type to play your PS4 over the Internet.
  2. Configure your controller. Unlike with Xbox’s official Xbox app, Remote PC Play requires you to manually configure your controller, whether it be keyboard and mouse or a controller, though this only has to be done once. Simply click Settings > Controller, select your controller type from the dropdown and map the buttons one by one. When you’re done, simply close the window and your settings will be saved.
  3. Game away. If you’ve correctly followed our instructions, you should see a video stream displayed in the centre of the app window. To control your PS4 and start playing, simply make sure the the main window is selected and game away!

Step 4 : Connecting over the Internet

  1. Set up Port Forward. To connect to your PS4 over the Internet, you need to first port forward on your home (or wherever your PS4 is) router. If you’re unsure of how to port forward on your router, you can look up your make and model here for instructions. In your router settings, open the following ports; UDP 987, TCP 9295 and UDP 9296.
  2. Turn on your PS4. Make sure your PS4 is turned on, as wake up is not yet supported with remote connections.
  3. Enter Public IP and connect. In the Remote PC Play app, enter your PS4’s public IP address (which can be found by going to whatismyip.com from the PS4 browser) and click Direct Connect. If all goes well, you should be connected to your PS4 and be able to play over the Internet.
