How to Connect a Samsung Smart Hub to a PC

The Samsung Optical Smart Hub serves a couple of useful purposes. First, you can use the Smart Hub as a DVD burner or player for your desktop or laptop computer. However, the primary purpose of the Smart Hub is to serve as a media streaming and backup server for iOS and Android devices. While the Samsung Smart Hub does not stream media to a PC, you can connect a Wi-Fi enabled computer to take advantage of the product's disc burning, storage and routing features.

Connect as DVD Optical Drive
Connect the AC adapter to the Samsung Optical Smart Hub and plug it into an electrical outlet.

Connect the mini-plug end of the USB cable to the Smart Hub.

Connect the other end of the USB cable to an empty port on the computer or laptop. Wait a few seconds for Windows to detect the USB connection and configure the Smart Hub for use as an optical drive automatically.

Insert a DVD movie into the Smart Hub and view it in Windows Media Player. Alternatively, insert a blank CD or DVD into the Smart Hub and use the device to burn discs.

Connect to Smart Hub Wirelessly
Connect the LAN cable from the broadband router to the Samsung Optical Smart Hub if you have not already done so. Close any existing Internet or Wi-Fi connections on the computer you want to connect to the Smart Hub.

Locate the sticker on the bottom of the Samsung Optical Smart Hub that lists the SSID and password for the devices. Note the SSID and password.

Insert the installation disc for the Samsung Smart Hub into the optical drive of the computer. Click the "Setup" button when the Smart Hub installer appears on the screen. Follow the prompts to install the Optical Smart Hub connection manager on the computer and then restart the PC if prompted.

Launch the Optical Smart Hub application on the computer. Enter the SSID and password for the Smart Hub in the window that opens and then click "Next." Wait a few seconds for the application to locate the Smart Hub on the wireless network and confirm the login credentials.

Enter a new SSID and password for the Smart Hub in the corresponding fields when prompted and click the "Next" button. Alternatively, just click "Next" if you don’t want to change the default credentials. Click "Next" in the "Thank You" window.

Select the "Auto IP address (DHCP)" option in the Internet Settings window if your Internet service provider assigns you a dynamic IP address each time you connect to the Internet. If your ISP provided you with a permanent IP address, select the "Static IP address" option and click the "Next" button. If your connection requires a username and password, select the "PPPoE" option.

Enter the static IP address or wait for the Smart Hub to detect the dynamic address automatically. If you selected the PPPoE option, enter the username and password required to access the Internet connection on the broadband modem and click the "Next" button.

Click the "Finish" button when prompted. Open your preferred Web browser and surf the Internet normally.
